Prof. Dr. Samuel Gunawan earned his Master’s degree in Linguistics with a focus on Language and Culture from the University of Michigan, USA (1985). He further specialized in language, text, and culture at Macquarie University, Australia (1988), and the University of Missouri, USA (1989).
He obtained his doctoral degree in Language and Literature Education from Universitas Negeri Surabaya (2012), with a dissertation titled The Power of Persuasive Text-building in Barack Obama’s Presidential Campaign Speeches.
Prof. Gunawan joined Petra Christian University in 2001 after serving as a lecturer at Universitas Andalas from 1981 to 2001.
His research interests include Rhetoric and Communication Arts.
He appreciates the beauty of fresh flowers, and orchid, in particular, is his favorite.
